This page will try to document my current trip to the EVOKE 2006. During the next 10 days, it will be updated live by me. Enjoy reading.
Before Flight (Day 0 - 6th Aug 2006)
Not much will be written here, as I’m mostly packing and testing the page creation. The flight is tomorrow (7th Aug 2006) at 07:15 AM, and landing is scheduled at 13:15 pm.
After I land, bLAStY will pick me up from schiphol airport.
Arrival (Day 1 - 7th Aug 2006)
After a 6 hours of flight, on a Boeing 777, I’ve reached Schiphol Airport at 11:49 and got my passport signed. After waiting 20 minutes for baggage I’ve exitted to the Arrival hall where there bLAStY and Xerony welcomed me without a sign as they were supposed to do, but that wasn’t a problem, because they recognized me as soon as I passed the door from the laggage hall. After we met, we took a small break then continued to Alkmaar where bLAStY lives. I was so tired from the flight (Had to wake up at 4 AM!), I just set near the computer bLAStY had setted me up, and finised the starting effect of our demo to EVOKE ‘06.
I went to bed at around 20:00 because I was too sleepy to do anything. Since the day had no special stuff, I have no pictures to show.
Amsterdam Part 1 (Day 2 - 8th Aug 2006)
We woke up at around 09:00, had breakfast and tea while trying to think of a new effect for our demo.
We couldn’t come up with anything special, and were upset about it, so at around 13:00 we went to Amsterdam by train. We departed at Amsterdam Central Station at around 14:00 and started to look for Anna Frank’s hideout house. It was a 15 minutes of walking (It was a very cool walk, the buildings are so colourful!).

When we arrived to Anna Frank’s house, we were shocked to see the huge waiting line which could took 3 hours of waiting. We were depressed and didn’t want to wait too long, so we continued walking to Madame Taussaud wax museum which was awesome 40 minutes (and 20 Euros) spending.
On the way back, we ate dinner/lunch and took a walk back to the train station. I should mention that Amsterdam is full of graffiti images which we almost does not have here, so I was pretty impressed to see amazing ones. My camera’s battery was almost drained out, so i was able to take one last image of a great graffiti image.
Walking in Alkmaar (Day 3 - 9th Aug 2006)
We didn’t feel like spending two days in a row in Amsterdam, So we have decided to take a short walk in Alkmaar. View is amazing. After we came back, we continued working on our demo.
Amsterdam Part 2 (Day 4 - 10th Aug 2006)
The second time we are at Amsterdam. This time, we knew the line to Anne Frank’s house would be long, so it was the first thing we have visited. We waited in line for 1 hour and then entered to Anne Frank’s museum. No pictures were allowed…
After we left, we called Badname to come and pick us up to Amsterdam Amstel. We walked to the Rijksmuseum.
After that, we ate dinner and since everything was closed (Past 17:00), we went back to bLAStY’s house, where we have finally finished the demo for EVOKE.
Going to Cologn (Day 5 - 11th Aug 2006)
We left Alkmaar at 11:12 to the Alkmaar train station to catch our ICE international train to Cologn. By train, going from Alkmaar to Cologn was 3 hours, so we arrived at 16:34 to the party place after despert measures to find it.
It was located in an old factory with a great private atmosphere.
Welcoming ceremony had started at 20:00 and was very humble. After 3 hours, some known german scener musician came and tracked us some awesome music.
A good friend of mine, 0xtob, was supposed to come to EVOKE too at 00:00. I have searched him all over the party place for severl times… I got tierd from looking for him, so I went to one of the front PCs, opened MS Paint and wrote ‘0xtob, LiraNuna is waiting for you at the #titandemo table’.
Too bad that messaged got replaced by ‘5711 ownz you’ 3 minutes later… So I didn’t see 0xtob anywhere.
After the starting hype faded out, we went to the Regina hotel where we stayed, in 01:00
Party time (Day 6 - 12th Aug 2006)
Since the ASCII/ANSII compo had started at 11:00, we had to wake up early and have breakfast before.
Then in a surprise, a guy comes to bLAStY and asks if he is the ‘DS Demo maker guy’. bLAStY pointed him to me. I immidietly recognized 0xtob!
While waiting for the ASCII/ANSII compo to start, a demo called Chaos Theory by Conspiracy was playing on the big screen with low volume. Then, some guys from the VIP Lounge shouted to the organizer “PUT IT LOUDER!” but some german people translated it to “GUDE LAUNDE” which means “Good Mood” in german. After that ‘incident’, everyone started shouting “GUDE LAUNE” to each other to raise up the moral.
On 16:00 the 4K PC demo started, and i got a very intresting greet on the main screen: “RANDOM ISRAELI SCENER”. Our entry, Infreno kicked ass and even got to be twice on the big screen (First run up was missing a font).
More compos were on, and even had some intresting entries. On 01:05, the wild compo had started, showing some Amiga and C64 demos. Then, our demo came on the big screen! But after it, the demo “Nano” came… and blew everyone away with awesome design and visuals.
After the PC demo was over (02:30) we left over to the hotel after an hour.
Going back to the Netherlands (Day 7 - 13th Aug 2006)
Waking up at 09:00 and going to the party place waiting for the prize giving ceremony to start at 13:00. We hoped it will last for 30 minutes or so, cause we had an ICE train to catch at 14:14
but as we stayed in, we knew something’s went wrong… The ceremony got postponed by half an hour…
We had a train to catch, so we had to left the party saying good bye and GUDE LAUNE to people.
We came back to bLAStY’s place at 18:00 and went to sleep.
